The short answer
Published national ranges for a wood fence installed run from $10 to $45 per linear foot (Angi) to $20 to $50 per linear foot (HomeGuide). A 6-foot wood privacy fence is $25 to $50 per linear foot installed, per HomeGuide. So 100 feet of fence is roughly $2,000 to $5,000 in HomeGuide's table. These are national ranges, not Spokane or Coeur d'Alene prices.
| Fence length | Installed cost (national) | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 50 feet | $1,000 to $2,500 | HomeGuide |
| 100 feet | $2,000 to $5,000 | HomeGuide |
| 150 feet | $3,000 to $7,500 | HomeGuide |
| 200 feet | $4,000 to $10,000 | HomeGuide |
What affects the cost
- Length. The biggest factor. Short fences can cost more per foot because setup work is the same.
- Height and style. A 6-foot privacy fence uses more wood than a 4-foot picket or split rail fence.
- Wood type. Cedar, pressure-treated pine and other woods are priced differently, and last differently.
- Ground and access. Slopes, rock, roots and tight side yards slow the crew down.
- Gates. Each gate adds parts and labor. Angi lists $150 to $2,000 per gate.
- Tearing out the old fence. Removal and haul-away are often priced separately. Angi lists $3 to $5 per linear foot.
- Permits and property lines. Some fences need a permit, and some jobs need the property line confirmed first.
