The short answer
HomeGuide's national average is $850, with most removals costing $400 to $1,200 and the full range running from about $200 to $3,000. Angi puts the average at about $750. Height matters most: a tree under 30 feet is often a few hundred dollars, and a very tall one can be $2,000 or more. These are national ranges, not Spokane or Coeur d'Alene prices.
| Tree height | Removal cost (national) | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Under 30 feet | $200 to $500 | HomeGuide |
| 30 to 60 feet | $500 to $1,500 | HomeGuide |
| 60 to 80 feet | $850 to $2,000 | HomeGuide |
| Over 80 feet | $1,200 to $2,500+ | HomeGuide |
Pine removal specifically: HomeGuide lists $250 to $1,600, and Angi lists $250 to $1,500.
What affects the cost
- Height and trunk size. Taller, thicker trees take more time, gear and crew.
- What is nearby. A tree leaning toward the house, a fence or power lines has to come down in small pieces, which costs more. Angi says hard-to-reach or unsafe spots can add 25% to 50%.
- Condition. Dead or storm-damaged trees can be less predictable to take down.
- Access. If a truck or lift can't reach the tree, the crew climbs and carries everything out.
- Stump and cleanup. Stump grinding, hauling the wood and chipping branches are often priced separately. HomeGuide lists $100 to $500+ per stump.
- Urgency. HomeGuide notes same-day or next-day removal often costs 2 to 3 times the standard rate.
Questions to ask a shop
- Is stump grinding included? What about hauling away the wood and branches?
- Are you insured for liability and workers' comp? Can I see proof?
- Is there a certified arborist on your crew?
- How will you protect my roof, fence and lawn?
- Do I need a permit for this tree, and will you handle it?
- Can I keep the firewood, and does that change the price?
- Is this a fixed price, or could it change once you start?
- When could you do it, and is there a different price for waiting?
Safety first
If a tree or branch is touching or near a power line, stay away from it and call your electric utility. Don't try to cut it yourself.

Common questions
How much does it cost to remove a tree?
HomeGuide's national average is $850, and most removals cost $400 to $1,200. Angi puts the average at about $750. Tall trees near houses or power lines cost the most.
Are these Spokane or Coeur d'Alene prices?
No. They are national ranges from HomeGuide and Angi. We will only show local price ranges once we have at least 10 real shop quotes for this job in that area from the last 12 months.
Is stump grinding included?
Often not. Many tree services price stump grinding, hauling and chipping separately. Ask each shop to list exactly what is included.
Will homeowners insurance pay for tree removal?
Sometimes. HomeGuide says insurance usually helps when a tree damages a covered structure, and generally not when a tree falls in the yard without damage. Check your policy, and call your insurer before removing a tree that hit the house.
What does it cost to use Doing Work?
Nothing. Doing Work is free for homeowners, and shops never pay for leads or to be included.
