What affects the cost
- Length and height. More feet of gutter and second-story eaves mean more material, ladder work and time.
- Material. Vinyl costs the least. HomeGuide notes vinyl can get brittle in extreme cold, which matters in our winters.
- Seamless or sectional. HomeGuide says seamless gutters cost $3 to $5+ more per foot but leak less.
- Size. Most homes use 5-inch gutters. Large roofs may need 6-inch gutters, which cost a bit more.
- Downspouts and guards. HomeGuide lists $30 to $75 per downspout and $15 to $45 per foot for gutter guards.
- Old gutters and fascia. Removing old gutters adds $50 to $200, per HomeGuide. Rotten fascia boards have to be fixed first.
Questions to ask a shop
- Are the gutters seamless? What gauge or thickness of aluminum?
- What size gutters and downspouts do you recommend for my roof?
- How many downspouts are included, and where will they drain?
- Is removing the old gutters included?
- Will you check the fascia boards, and how do you price repairs?
- How are the hangers spaced and fastened, given our snow loads?
- What warranty do you give on materials and labor?
